From Chaos to Clarity: Real-Time Financial Insights

Analytics Platform
Multi-Branch Business
VIEW PROJECT
Real-Time Financial Insights for a Multi-Branch Business
Challenge:
A multi-branch business using a single central bank account was drowning in manual reconciliations. Limited information on staff utilisation. Board reports arrived up to a week late, delaying strategic decisions.
solution:
We delivered an integrated analytics platform, consolidating real-time financial data from all branches. Executives and managers gained interactive dashboards with drill-down analysis, Excel exports, and visual KPIs. Staff time utilisation compared with service profitability, available diary time with booking time. Automated anomaly detection flagged irregularities instantly, while role-based access ensured governance and compliance.
results:
  • Single source of truth for all financial data
  • Real-time branch & product profitability, cash flow, and forecasting

  • Faster, informed decisions with instant access to KPIs
IMPACT
From week-late reports to real-time insights—at management’s fingertips.

Funding a Grandchild through Bare Trusts

Family Wealth
VIEW PROJECT
Funding a Grandchild’s Education – Bare Trust for Direct Gifts
Challenge:
For straightforward gifts intended for minor grandchildren—such as funding school/university fees—we assist clients in setting up bare trusts (also discretionary trusts). Assets are transferred to trustees (often the client’s own child) who hold them absolutely for the named grandchild.
Solution:
  • Gifts to bare trusts are Potentially Exempt Transfers (PETs)

  • No Inheritance Tax (IHT) is due if the client survives seven years from the date of the gift

  • If the client passes away within seven years, the gift may become chargeable
Results:
  • Simple to establish and manage

  • Assets are treated as belonging to the beneficiary for tax purposes, allowing use of their personal income tax allowance and capital gains tax exemption

  • The beneficiary gains full control at age 18

Time Back to Lead: Automating Finance & KPIs

Service Industry
VIEW PROJECT
Boosting Efficiency in the Service Industry with Automation & KPIs
Challenge:
A national service provider faced slow month-end closes, duplicated manual work, and a lack of actionable insights. Reports were late, operational performance was unclear, and leadership struggled to prioritise improvements.
Solution:
We implemented automation tools to streamline reporting, accounts payable, and intercompany reconciliations—eliminating hours of manual consolidation. In parallel, we worked with leadership to design fewer than 10 high-impact, non-financial KPIs directly linked to their Critical Success Factors. These KPIs were monitored daily, owned by specific teams, and reviewed weekly by executives.
Results:
  • Month-end close time was reduced by 60% through automated data capture and consolidation

  • KPI dashboards provided real-time visibility into service delivery, client satisfaction, and operational bottlenecks

  • Reporting waste cut by 40%, freeing finance teams to focus on analysis and strategic support

  • Faster, fact-based decision-making improved profitability and customer retention
IMPACT
The client transitioned from reactive reporting to proactive performance management, resulting in operational efficiency, higher margins, and a stronger competitive position.

Turning Crisis into Closure: COP9 Tax Fraud Resolution

Tax Investigation
Hospitality
VIEW PROJECT
Successful Resolution of a COP9 Tax Investigation for a restaurant owner admitted to deliberate tax fraud
Challenge:
HMRC’s Fraud Investigation Service raided a restaurant owner and interviewed staff. During the interview, he admitted irregularities and HMRC issued a Code of Practice 9 (COP9) notice, alleging deliberate tax fraud over several years due to undeclared income (cash sale). With prosecution a real possibility, Mr. A faced severe financial, reputational, and legal risks.
Solution:
  • Rapid Assessment: Explained COP9 implications, the Contractual Disclosure Facility (CDF) process, and potential penalty impacts.

  • Forensic Review: Analysed all business and personal records, uncovering legitimate but unclaimed overseas expenses that offset much of the undeclared income.

  • Strategic Disclosure: Applied the “Telling, Helping, Giving Access” principles—providing HMRC with a transparent, evidence-backed disclosure report.

  • Negotiation: Challenged HMRC’s assumptions with detailed financial reconstructions, rebutting their initial “business economics” estimates.

Results:
  • Significant Reduction in Liability: HMRC accepted our recalculated position based on our analytical and logical reasoning, reducing additional tax and penalties substantially.

  • Favourable Settlement: reasonable net profit adjustments for the main enquiry year and similar positive outcomes for earlier years.

  • Prosecution Avoided: Full cooperation and robust evidence secured an equitable resolution without escalation.

IMPACT
A potentially career-ending tax fraud allegation was resolved with minimal financial impact, protecting both the client’s livelihood and reputation.

Split without the Spill: Tax-Neutral Statutory Demerger

VIEW PROJECT
Tax-Neutral Statutory Demerger
Challenge:
A UK trading group with a profitable core business and a high-risk venture sought to separate its operations to protect the core entity, ease shareholder tensions, and enable focused growth—all while ensuring the restructuring remained fully tax-neutral.
Solution:
Structured an indirect statutory demerger under CTA 2010 rules, transferring the high-risk venture into a new company with proportional share distribution. Secured HMRC clearance to confirm tax neutrality and applied stamp duty reconstruction reliefs.
Results:

Achieved a clean, compliant split with no tax charges, clearer strategic focus, reduced risk exposure, and flexibility for future growth or succession.

Cleaning Up the Past: Fixing Compliance Failures

VIEW PROJECT
Resolving Compliance Failures and Avoiding Further Penalties
Challenge:
The client’s previous accountant failed to apply pension deductions, report auto-enrolment, or file on time, resulting in a £1,800 fine, unplanned payment of both employer and employee pension contributions (without recovering employee deductions), and late filings that triggered HMRC enquiries.
Solution:
We conducted a full compliance review, rectified pension reporting with The Pensions Regulator, brought auto-enrolment filings up to date, and implemented robust payroll and reporting processes. We also addressed HMRC’s queries with accurate records, preventing escalation.
Results:
The client is now fully compliant, with penalties minimised, and automated systems ensuring accurate deductions, timely filings, and a reduced risk of future regulatory action.
